Petcube Fountain

Petcube

8.4/10 editorial score

Petcube Fountain gets the fundamentals mostly right: filtered moving water, a removable easy-care upper surface, and the ability to function without Wi-Fi. The app is a convenience layer rather than a requirement. Its 1.7L capacity is better for one cat or a small household than for several thirsty animals.

Best forSingle-cat or small-pet homes that want a compact fountain that can keep working without a permanent Wi-Fi connection and can be placed away from an outlet for periods
Think twice ifLarge dogs, high-consumption multi-pet homes, or owners who want per-pet hydration attribution rather than general water/filter reminders
PetcubeWater Filters 3 PackThree replacement filters for routine fountain maintenance

Petcube sells replacement filter packs for routine maintenance, so recurring filter replacement should be included in the long-term ownership cost.

What we like

  • 1.7 L / 57 oz reservoir
  • Core fountain operation does not require internet, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi
  • Rechargeable battery operation
  • Four-layer filtration with UV during filtration cycle
  • Dishwasher-safe stainless or ceramic upper tray depending on variant
  • App adds water-level, filter, and maintenance reminders

What to consider

  • Smaller capacity than 3 L fountains

  • Filter is required and Petcube recommends replacement every four weeks
  • Tank/base components require more care than the removable upper tray
  • Battery duration depends on operating mode and household use

First, it works as a fountain without the app

Connected pet products can become frustrating when a cloud service is treated as part of the basic mechanical function. Petcube takes a better approach here: the Fountain can operate without internet, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. The app adds status information and reminders, but water circulation itself is not dependent on an online account.

That makes the Fountain easier to recommend than a device whose bowl becomes useless when the router is down. Owners can still choose to connect it for low-water, filter, and maintenance information.

Capacity suits cats better than a large multi-pet household

The reservoir holds 1.7 liters, or about 57 ounces. Petcube says that can last up to roughly a week in some single-pet households, but the real refill interval depends on animal size, diet, weather, evaporation, and how much water is discarded during cleaning. A multi-cat home may prefer a larger 3-liter fountain simply to reduce refill frequency.

Filtration, UV, and the water-moving assembly

Petcube uses a four-layer filter and runs UV automatically during the filtration cycle. UV is an extra treatment step, not permission to ignore the bowl. Hair, saliva, food particles, mineral scale, and biofilm still have to be removed through washing.

The current design is marketed around a magnetic modular water-moving system that keeps powered components separate from the removable wet section. Some listings call this a wireless magnetic pump while other marketing uses “pumpless” language. The practical point is simpler: the removable basin/tank is designed to be easier to lift away from its powered base than many traditional fountain assemblies.

Cleaning: upper tray is the easy part

Petcube sells the Fountain with stainless-steel or ceramic upper-tray variants. The upper tray is dishwasher-safe. Petcube’s support guidance treats the other parts separately, and the filter itself is not reusable indefinitely. The company recommends filter replacement every four weeks.

Do not wait for the app to tell you the fountain looks dirty. The visible bowl, tank, propeller/rotor area, seams, and water path should be inspected routinely, especially in warm rooms or households where food crumbs enter the water.

Battery operation changes placement options

A rechargeable fountain can sit where the pet naturally drinks instead of where the nearest outlet happens to be. Battery runtime is affected by operating pattern and sensor use, so the headline maximum should not be treated as a guaranteed number of days for every home. The useful feature is placement flexibility, not a fixed runtime promise.

Safety behavior when water gets low

Petcube warns owners not to run the fountain dry. Its support material says the unit indicates low water and automatically powers off at the minimum level. That protects the water-moving hardware, but the animal still needs an alternative water source whenever a fountain is unattended. No smart alert should be the only thing standing between a pet and drinking water.

Petcube versus an RFID fountain

Choose Petcube when you want a compact fountain whose core job does not depend on an app and you value battery placement flexibility. Choose a product such as PETLIBRO Dockstream RFID when the real requirement is to identify which cat drank. Those are different problems: Petcube monitors the appliance; Dockstream RFID tries to attribute consumption to individual tagged pets.
