Why ramp angle matters
A ramp may reduce impact from jumping, but a short ramp against a tall vehicle can create a slope that is difficult for a weak or fearful dog. Measure the loading height and compare it with the ramp’s usable length before buying.
Teach the dog gradually
Start with the ramp flat on the ground. Reward the dog for approaching, placing paws on it, and walking across. Increase the incline slowly. Never pull a frightened dog up by the collar.
Setup checklist
Park on level ground, apply the parking brake, seat the ramp securely, and check that the surface is dry. Stand beside the dog and use a harness if extra guidance is needed.
Medical consideration
A dog recovering from surgery or showing hind-limb weakness should follow veterinary rehabilitation guidance. A ramp is useful equipment, but the wrong incline or unsupported movement can still be unsafe.
